Dear ,

I have just been alerted that the last virtual information session on the Bay du Nord project is tonight! In person events are being held from July 7, 8 ,9 - check link below for locations in NL.

Bay du Nord Public Review Information Sessions -  Please register here to attend: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/bay-du-nord-public-review-information-sessions-tickets-1991915766679

These info sessions are being held by the offshore regulator, the Canada-NL Offshore Energy Regulator, as part of advancing Equinor’s development plan for Bay du Nord deepwater drilling project.

This could be the bulwark project for expanding oil and gas drilling on the East Coast and fossil fuel extraction nation-wide - while putting oceans and ocean life such as endangered whales, Atlantic salmon, and sensitive deep sea corals at risk.

Please sign up to attend tonight, and if you have friends in NL, please ask them to dial in and / or attend a session to hear more and have their say.

We can build Canada without destroying our hopes of a safe future, but only if we keep speaking up for what’s better. Let them know:
  • The project, which comes with a 16% chance of an extremely large oil spill (see DFO assesment in PDF, page 57) and an 18-36 day response time to a well-blowout is not worth the risk.
  • The Bay du Nord project is economically pointless in a world that is rapidly transitioning away from oil and gas reliance and using public funds to back it only transfers that risk onto the public.
  • We must instead prioritize the sort of renewable energy infrastructure and green economy development that is truly needed in this moment.
  • Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, and people across Canada, want renewables not more oil and gas projects that will only make severe fires and storms worse via climate change.

Data showed thet much of Newfoundland (and many parts of Labrador) experienced high temperatures in the August 2025 wildfire season - heat made at least 5x more likely due to climate change.

Thank you for your support and for speaking up!

Gretchen
