Halloween sure was spooky this year... But in our opinion, the threats to our planet are much spookier! 

Welcome to our October Ozone, complete with a brand new look!

On October 13, 2018, Sierra Club Ontario, along with Toronto Coalition of Ecoschools, held a shoreline cleanup in Earl Bales Park, Toronto. With a great turnout from local high schools as well as help from many helpful passersby, over two hours, we managed to collect four large bags of garbage and two of recycling, totaling up to about 26 kg, or 57 lbs!

In late November last year, Sierra Club Ontario's Dr. Lino Grima, Canadian Co-chair of the Sierra Club Bi-national Great Lakes Committee, participated in the development of a proposal to create an Independent Panel to undertake a review of the challenges facing the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River. The result of this effort was the launch of the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Collaborative Strategy last Friday. Environment and Climate Change Canada will be providing $400,000 to fund this 18-month process. You can read all about this brand new initiative here.

Two years ago, over 49 non-governmental organizations across Canada and the USA signed on to a letter asking both Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Barack Obama to address issues pertaining to a series of shipments of liquid radioactive waste from Chalk River in Ontario to the US Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina. These shipments were along public roads and over bridges crossing the Great Lakes. This effort has finally come into fruition. Find out more about it here.

- At this moment, SCO is specifically looking for those who are interested or experienced in fundraising or grantwriting to help with the chapter's self-sufficiency
