Sierra Club Quebec opposes the submission of non for profits to Quebec lobbying laws

Le 10 février, Sierra Club Québec a défendu, devant le Commissaire au lobbyisme du Québec, son opposition à l'assujettissement des OSBL à la Loi sur la transparence en matière de lobbysime, tel que suggéré dans le projet de loi no 56.

Dans la présente Loi sur la transparence en matière de lobbyisme, des OSBL sont exclus. Selon le législateur, cette situation nourrit la perception qu'il y existe de bons et de mauvais lobbyistes.

Sierra Club Canada Foundation and the Save Our Seas and Shores (SOSS) Coalition are deeply disappointed that a third extension has been granted for Corridor Resources’ exploration lease in the Gulf of St. Lawrence by federal and provincial natural resources ministers. The junior oil company was obliged to pay $1 million dollars to extend its lease beyond Jan.

OTTAWA – Former Ontario Premier, Dalton McGuinty, received the Sierra Club Distinguished Service Award at a ceremony in San Francisco on Saturday, September 12, 2015. The award honours individuals serving in the public sector who have demonstrated a strong and consistent commitment to conservation. He was nominated by Sierra Club Canada Foundation for his outstanding environmental dedication. Mr. McGuinty is responsible for closing Ontario’s coal-fired power plants, passing the Green Energy Act, and creating the Greenbelt around Toronto.

The Board of Directors of Sierra Club Canada Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Diane Beckett as Interim Executive Director. Ms. Beckett brings decades of involvement in the non-profit sector to this newly created position. Former National Program Director, John Bennett, assumes the role of National Spokesperson. “I’m pleased we can begin a new chapter for Sierra Club Canada Foundation with Diane (Beckett) at the helm and retain the voice and experience of John (Bennett). We have the right team in place,” said Michael Bernard, President of Sierra Club Canada Foundation. Diane Beckett brings leadership, passion and commitment to her new position as Interim Executive Director of the Sierra Club Canada Foundation. She has extensive experience working with environmental organizations at the community, provincial, and national level in Canada, as well as internationally.
